The International Congress on Mechanical Behavior of Materials was formed partly as a result of the efforts of the late Professor Shuji Taira, who organized the first International Conference on Mechanical Behavior of Materials in Kyoto, Japan in August 1971, and continued his efforts in furthering the objectives of this organization, namely to foster research on the mechanical behavior of materials and to promote international cooperation. The International Congress on the Mechanical Behavior of Materials (ICM) objectives are to foster research on the mechanical behavior of materials, to promote related international cooperation among scientists and engineers and to provide means for the public dissemination of the results from these efforts. The ICM holds international conferences every four years. These conferences are intended to cover progress on all aspects of the mechanical behavior of materials from both the macroscopic and microscopic viewpoints. The scope of materials of interest include both industrial materials, e.g., metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics, composites, and advanced materials under development or used in particular applications. These conferences bring together users, producers and researchers, both engineers and scientists who have a common interest in various aspects of materials behavior. The objective is to facilitate and encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience among different communities involved in using, improving, developing, assessing and conducting basic research. The conferences aim to explore the scale integration (micro-, meso- and macroscopic) behaviour as well as an integrated approach to aspects of design, manufacturing and mechanical reliability.

Since Roman times the unspoilt beauty of Lake Como charms its visitor: mild climate; fishermen villages and ancient abbeys. Fashion and design outlets, a lively nightlife, exclusive golf and sailing clubs: for your leisure time, Lake Como offers all this and more. Spazio Villa Erba, one of the Italy’s nicest convention center, is a unique venue overlooking the Lake. Como is accessible from every part of the world thanks to the Malpensa Airport (just 30’): 199 destinations & 780 flights per day. There are 87 hotels with over 7,300 guest rooms in the territory of Lake Como. Villa Erba is the nicest conference center in Italy: • A masterpiece in steel and glass sheets • An opulent Villa built at the end of the 19th century • A centuries-old park • 1,500 hotel rooms within 1,5 km area The latest technology innovations: • Every single room is networked and equipped with: • optical fibers (innovative data-voice-video connections) • High-speed wireless and wired Internet (10 MB)
Authors wishing to contribute to the conference are invited to submit a one-page abstract (see format in the ICM11 web page). Authors will receive notification of acceptance of their proposed contribution. Extened versions of the papers presented at the conference can be submitted for special issues of prestigious journals related to the topics of the conference. Confirmation of participation at the conference by the authors will be required when abstract are accepted. Only confirmed presentations by registered participants will be included in the final program. Author’s instructions can be found on the home page: www.icm11.org
